Woods, water and sand is my inspiration. Looking back at my older works now, I see a pattern and I think I've found my latest niche'. I have for some time now been wanting to work on wood panels instead of canvas. Our wood shop and finishing room is just about complete so I can get in there and start trying a few new ideas. I have a quick little clip with The Chi Chi girl (our feathered dog) saying hello in the background. Hope you like? Cheers!!

Seven Booty Salute
Just a few distractions at Highlands Studio - we have our lucky 7 fur babies who just turned a year old June 1st. We have been upgrading their outdoor enclosure and I decided on a whim to paint their door. I'm so glad I did. I love how they rest completely sprawled out, all you see is belly, booty and feet. haha

Practicing Abstract Realism
I was inspired so much by a video tutorial by Sam Durkin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg-v8HIS-v4 , his persona and technique makes you willing to give it a TRY. Check him out. So much happening with this painting for me. Just using primary colors is a first for me and I am really loving it. You have way more control with your color palette. Premixed can get muddy real quick. The colors are more vibrant and true. Next is working on depth, and lighting. I think a bit more softening to go, but I'm really excited with this style of painting.

Currently working on this - It's in acrylics on canvas. Trying a few different techniques. I'm torn as to whether I go for intricate detail on the wings or shading. I want the butterfly to pop off the canvas and also the focus to be on the haphazard detail of the body. So here it is for now, we shall see if I leave it alone.
